VKG buys bankruptcy property of Silbet Plokk

Viru Keemia Grupp (VKG) bought the production complex of construction materials producer Silbet Plokk in North Estonian Kohta-Järve for 615,000 euros, LETA/National Broadcasting reports.
Silbet Plokk went bankrupt in summer 2010. It produced construction blocks from oil shale ashes. VKG intends to restart the production.
VKG’s board chairman Priit Rohumaa said that the company gets a factory with modern production lines that can utilise a major part of waste that emerges in processing oil shale into construction material.   TCVKG aims to find a synergy between the two production complexes and recreate nearly 200 jobs for the region.   VKG produces shale oil and heating and electric energy. It has over 1,600 employees.

BaltCap acquired the second largest electricity distribution operator in Estonia

BaltCap Infrastructure Fund II (BInF II) acquired full ownership in VKG Elektrivõrgud. VKG Elektrivõrgud is the second largest electricity distribution network operator in Estonia after the state-owned Elektrilevi. BaltCap sees the acquisition as holding significant potential for horizontal growth both with electricity and grid-based services.

Preparations for the Uus-Kiviõli Mine have reached a new stage

Viru Keemia Grupp is preparing to open the Uus-Kiviõli Mine by the end of 2024, with an aboveground inclined shaft and two tunnels completed by now. In the second week of December, renovation work also started on the conveyor belt between the Ojamaa Mine and the Kohtla-Järve production territory, which will in the future be used in transporting the oil shale mined from the Uus- Kiviõli Mine to the oil shale plant.

Shale oil producer partners with Environmental intelligence platform

A new contract will connect the world’s largest shale oil producer with a real-time environmental technology platform, designed to help emissions forecasting and lessen environmental impacts. Environmental intelligence technology company Envirosuite Limited (Envirosuite) will be deploying its Industrial environmental intelligence platform Omnis under a three-year contract to Viru Keemia Grupp (VKG).
