Environmental policy
In 2011, VKG disclosed its plan of starting the construction of Petroter II plant in production territory of Kohtla-Järve. In summer, the same year, environmental impact assessment (EIA) programme was completed; the programme was discussed, in public, in VKG headquarters in 5 September.
As the consequence of public discussion, proposals were submitted, in total, by two administrative agencies and one inhabitant of Ontika village. Main proposals for the improvement of the EIA programme came from the Eastern Regional Office of the Environmental Board and Ida-Viru Regional Office of the Environmental Board. Proposals for the improvement of the programme mostly focused on the following aspects: storage of ashes, SO2 emission, protection of surface and ground water and complex environmental impact assessment for the new plant (taking the existing production lines and facilities into consideration).
The experts, involved in environmental impact assessment process, will definitely take the raised questions and proposals into consideration and hopefully in December the completed EIA report will be ready for review.
The next public discussion of the Petroter II EIA programme is expected to take place in April 2010.
Please refer all the related questions and proposals to the Department of Environment and technology or Public Relations Department.
